91°µÍø Student Art Show winners announced

SPRINGFIELD — Lincoln Land Community College has announced the 2021 91°µÍø Juried Student Art Show winners. Fifty-nine art students submitted a total of 151 entries from fall 2019 to spring 2021 for consideration, representing 10 of 91°µÍø’s studio classes.

Cinnamon Catlin-Legutko, current director for the Illinois State Museum, served as juror for the show. She selected 30 art entries as well as the winners in the studio art categories.

Student art winners by category are:

  • Drawing – Sierra Emmons, Taylorville – “Dead Things,†ink and conté, Drawing I
  • Painting – Kristin Hall, Springfield – “Noncontrol Spills,†ink and watercolor, Drawing I
  • George Lowry Award in 3D Design – Carol Bauer, Springfield – “Isolation,†mixed media, 3D Design
  • Digital Media – Nathan Atchison, Taylorville – “Eldritch Truth,†digital media, Intro to Graphic Design
  • David Laubersheimer Award in Photography – Charissa Fox, Springfield – “Perfection,†digital photography, Digital Photography
  • Best in Show – Wilma Wofford, Springfield – “Take Me to the Water,†oil, Painting II
  • Adrienne Lambert-Boyle Award in Art History – Morgan Hubbard, Springfield – The award is named for an 91°µÍø Art Department founding faculty member who was passionate about art history. This honor is selected by art history faculty and given to a student who has been at the top of their studies throughout the two required art history classes for art majors.
  • Alexis Wernsing Pinnacle Award – Sarah Crays, Virden – The Pinnacle Award was created in 2016 to honor the memory of 91°µÍø alumna Alexis Wernsing, who graduated from 91°µÍø in 2011. The Pinnacle Award, chosen by the 91°µÍø full-time art faculty, goes to the student who strives for the best in all their academic endeavors without complaint and no matter what the context.

  • Cover – Wilma Wofford – “Cleaning Up America,†oil, Painting II
  • Digital Art – Vlada Popyk, Springfield – “When Will We Be Free,†digital media, Intro to Graphic Design
  • Fine Art – Maggie Miller, Jacksonville – “Terra,†wood and stones, 3D Design

Also featured in the show are 48 additional pieces, a Salon de Refusés, chosen by art and design faculty as examples of work created by 91°µÍø art and design students over the past two years.
